Counsellor-In-Training (CIT) Program
Do you like working with kids?
Do you enjoy being outside?
Are you looking for something fun and worthwhile to do this summer?
The Oak Acres Counsellor-in-Training Program is looking for eager, hardworking 14-16 year olds to join the Oak Acres Staff in a volunteer position. The program is designed for young adults who are interested in becoming a camp counsellor. CITs will gain experience working with children ranging from ages 7-12, and strengthen skill areas such as leadership, active listening, program planning, and other basic counsellor skills. In this program, CITs will be working side by side with counsellors and other CITs, receiving hands-on experience in an outdoor environment. As a CIT, you will learn how to run sessions of your own such as archery, canoeing, sports, campfires, and much more. Oak Acres is also a registered charity that can be used to complete hours for the Community Service Bursary.
There will be a maximum of 12 CITs chosen to join us each summer. For each half of the summer, 3 females and 3 males will attend. Those chosen will have a choice of attending the First Half (July) of 3 camp sessions or the Second Half (August) of 3 camp sessions. The three camp sessions allow for the CITs to gain experience with all different age groups. The CITs will stay at the camp during all sessions (accommodations and meals provided) and between each session the CITs will return home for 2-3 days for a break.
